Local attractions

There is much to see and do in the area. All these are within a 45 minute drive or less from Springbank Lodges (see features map).

 

 – http://www.lakestay.co.uk/bikes.htm  There are many cycleways in the county. The start of the Coast to Coast cycleway is in Whitehaven and there is a local cycleway available just a mile from the Lodges

  Lowes Court – This is both an Arts & Crafts gallery and the home of the Egremont tourist information office
  Whitehaven.org – This comprehensive site gives information about Whitehaven and “What’s on” in the town.
The Maritime festival
  Wild Ennerdale.  Our nearest lake (20 minutes), part of European Rewilding project
  Muncaster Castle – The home of the World Owl Centre, Muncaster Castle is well worth a visit to see the extensive grounds, visit the Castle and view the many other attractions. In spring you can see the famous rhododendrons and azaleas in full flower.
  Lake District Osprey Project – One of the few places where the public can see and learn about Ospreys. Live web cams and informative displays make this the place to visit to see Lakelands nesting Ospreys.
  The La’al Ratty – A miniature railway line running from Ravenglass to Dalegarth in the Eskdale valley. A wonderful seven mile (11.3Km) trip to the new visitor centre.
  R.S.P.B – Along the cliff path from St Bees to Whitehaven, there is an RSPB reserve, one of the main sea bird colonies in the country.
  St Bees – The village of St Bees has an extensive history, mostly based round the Priory, which is well worth a visit to see the beautiful church and its historic displays. There is an extensive sandy beach and many local walks.
  Visit Egremont – The local market town of Egremont and home of the famous “Gurning” competition.
  The Wildlife Trust – Information about the work of the Wildlife Trust
  Rosehill theatre – This small theatre offers entertainment from music, theatre, film, children’s shows and more! Well worth a visit.
  Theatre by the Lake –  Located at Keswick, this is a year-round professional producing and presenting theatre. There is a six month summer season of six plays in repertoire, and a major Christmas production as well as home-produced professional drama productions at other times.
  Whitehaven – Historic harbour, Georgian architecture, Beacon Museum, Rum story and more.
